Ctenouorphodes briareus

Ctenouorphodes briareus

These are a large insect, from Austrailia. Adult females growing to around 8 inches, but the eggs are suprisingly very small for the size they grow.

The females can lay around 200 - 300 eggs in her lifetime.

An easy stick insect to look after as they live happy at room temperture could do with a little warmth through the very cold weather, keep quite well sprayed as their growing so as to help with shedding.

They live on Bramble, Oak. Feed Eucalyptus when young.

This speices is parthenogenetic.

Can be a difficult species to get started when very small, so not really recommeded for the bigginer.

This is one of my very favorite stick insects and must be one of the most easiest ones to look after, they most certainly are one for even the youngest beginner. They will live happy at room temperture, they eat Bramble, they like a light spraying of water daily and are very clean. A most beautiful and truely gentle stick insect. And they only lay a very few eggs, so your not always having to worry about too many nymphs being born. One of the best.

Ova is very easy to hatch just keep on damp tissue

A very easy stick insect for the beginner.

Large to adult - £4.00 each

                   ova available - ova x 10 £2.50

These are a very pretty stick insect and easy to look after, but i wouldn't recomend them for the young beginner, as they can be easily starkled and can emite a substance that can cause sneezing, and sometimes eye irratation. They live on Privet and will live happily at room temperture, through the summer. They like places to hide, like crushed up tissue paper or a toilet roll, or will tend to live on the old dry Privet leaves, so be carefull when changing their food stuff. Happy to be fed fresh Privet with NO water spraying necessary. I keep the Privet in a small tub filled with soil and on the top i place a small peice of tissue, this i keep watered and the insects will drink from the damp tissue. They seem to like a bit of back ground warmth through the winter months, if in a cold room.

This stick insect is well worth a go at keeping.

Not recommended for young children as they can emit a spray if startled which can cause sneezing and irritate the eyes.

Ova is very easy to hatch keep at room tempature either on damp tissue or dry.

Sarawak spiny (touch-me-not)

Sarawak Spiny

 Adult female          Adult male

These are one of my favorite speices as there so easy to care for and they only grow to around one and a half to two inches in length, females being the bigger of the two. They eat bramble and love to hide amonst the leaf litter. They do like to be kept slightly humid and don't like their enclosure getting too dry, best to keep in a plastic container with air holes.  Spray with  water daily. I find a little back ground heat doesn't hurt through the winter, if in a cold room.

Great little guys.

Nymphs available sometimes £3.50 each.

This speices really is a must for the stick insect lover out there. They are very beautiful when adults.
The female is thicker in body than the male and is a lovely green or sandy colour.
The males are thinner and really are a very beautiful blue with darkish legs.
They eat Bramble.
They are easy to keep at room temperture. They like a good spray of water daily when growing to help with shedding.
This speices isn't for children as must be handled with great care or only really when nessasary, as they do loose their limbs very easily.

 Guadeloupe ova                     nymph

This is a very easy speices to look after they eat Bramble and like a nice spray of water daily.

They like to camouflage them selves along the branches of the bramble and also  like hideing inside the dry rolled up bramble leaves, so you must be very careful when cleaning them out and changing their bramble as not to throw them out with it.

These pictures don't really do them much justice as they do come in different colours and the females are very pretty.

This is a lovely gentle and hardy speices for the beginner,

and really well worth a try.

Goliath Ova  x 10 - £4.00 + p&p £2.50

This speices is quite easy to look after but is not for the beginner. They should be provided with plenty of space to live and grow. When very young they prefer Eucalyptus leaves, but as they get older you can start trying a mixture of Eucalyptus, Bramble and Rose, you could always try other leaves. They enjoy a good spraying of warm water daily. A very beautiful speices. And a gentle giant.

For more info on this beautiful speices, please go to the Caresheet section.
